pci-e x16 extender (splitter)

  • Hello,

    Probably such a topic already exists but couldn't managed to find it.

    I am building a separate headless YaVDR server. The mainboard has only one PCI-Ex16 slot.

    I have 2x DD Cine S2 cards and one Duoflex. Obviously I have one PCI-E slot missing to accomodate both cards and I was wondering what you guys are using as an extender.

    There are many extenders/splitters on the market nowadays but I would like to avoid any "tests" and find a proven and tested model.

    Will be very gratefull for any comments and suggestions.

  • I have servers with 8 tuners, either TBS 6985/ TBS6905 quad-tuner cards for DVB-S(2) and the TBS 6209 DVB-C octa-tuner card that run streamdev servers really great. So, 2 quad-cards or 1 octa-card. None of them do have any CAM slots but they do work pretty good.


    Pro's:

    * either 2 Cards x 4 tuners DVB-S(2) or even 1 Card x 8 tuners DVB-C/DVB-T(2)

    * works very well under openSUSE and Debian, streaming literally hundreds of active Radio streams in parallel from one box with 2 DVB-S(2) Tuner cards!


    Con's:

    * Pretty expensive!

    * You always have to compile and link the module drivers into any new kernel version (dough!)


    Not exactly the exact answer to your question, but maybe that also would be an option to you?

    I am really happy with my Digital Devices cards and do not plan on changing them for TBS for now.

    Already have purchased a Syba I/O Crest SI-PEX60016. WIll report how it works once I receive it and install it.

  • If your board have support for PCIe bifurcation you can maybe share the one PCI-Ex16 slot with this x8x8 Risers ;)
