LinVDR bootet über NFS

  • Hi all,


    ich habe mir mal die Mühe gemacht, weil ich nicht eine ganze SuSE über NFS booten wollte.


    Im Prinzip war es einfach ;)


    LinVDR auf dem Server in ein Verzeichnis entpackt.
    Kernel neu kompiliert um NFS-Root zu unterstützen und die Netzwerkkarte im Kernel zu haben, modules über die LinVDR modules drüberkopiert
    im rcStart die Netzwerk-Startups entfernt (eth0 ist da schon am Laufen zu der Zeit)


    Funktioniert!

    Das Übersetzen des Kernel kannst du mir sagen wie du das alles eingerichtet hast.
    Bootes du über pxe?


    Ich versuche es auch komme aber über die pxe Stelle nicht rüber kein Kernel gefunden.
    Muss die Netztkarte nicht in den Kernel reinkompeliert werden. Ich habe ein Nforce Board???
    Wie Schnell ist die Sache. Hast du den dhcp und nfs server auf einer SuSE ?

    Nur zum Thema Schnelligkeit: ich fahre zwar nicht beim VDR netboot (Nachteil ist ja, dass auch noch der server Tag und Nacht durchlaufen muss -> kostet zu viel Strom), aber bei anderen Kisten, wenn auch nicht über PXE. Wenn erst die Netzwerkkarte betriebsbereit ist, wird der Rest ruckzuck geladen. Letztlich kommt es natürlich auf die Leistungsfähigkeit des servers, der Netzwerkverbindung und des Clients an. Aber bei heutigen Rechner ist das absolut kein Thema.

    Welchen Kernel- Source hast Du genommen? Auf welcher Platform kompiliert?
    Welche Einstellungen hast Du verwendet? Woher hast Du die?

    Ich habe einen Hauptserver unter SuSE 8.2 laufen (192.168.82.1) der DHCP und TFTP macht. Als zweiten habe ich meinen VDR-Server laufen unter SuSE 9.0 (192.168.82.5). Der hält das root-Filesystem für meinen Schlafzimmer-VDR (192.168.82.4) den ich diskless betreibe.


    Um über PXE booten zu können muss man:


    DHCP einrichten, dass er IP Adressen vergibt und pxelinux.0 als boot-file überträgt:

    Im Verzeichnis /srv/tftpboot müssen sich die Dateien pxelinux.0 und der Kernel befinden. Ausserdem muss dort ein Verzeichznis pxelinux.cfg existieren. Darin befinden sich die Konfigurationsdateien für die einzelnen Clients:

    Wichtig ist jetzt nur noch, dass der Treiber für die Netzwerkkarte(n) in den Kernel eincompiliert ist. Ich habe alle möglichen Versuche mit initrd gemacht um den Treiber als Modul beim Booten zu laden aber das ist alles schiefgelaufen. In letzter Konsequenz habe ich ihn dann einfach reinkompiliert.


    Auf dem vdrserver habe ich LinVDR in das Verzeichnis /srv/tftpboot/linvdr entpackt. Kernel kann man löschen, das /lib/modules/2.6.4 Verzeichnis auch. Dann habe ich auf einem anderen System auf dem ich SuSE 9.1 installiert habe den SuSE-Kernel mit folgender .config (siehe nächster Beitrag) kompiliert (ich habe alles rausgeschmissen was ich nicht brauche und lediglich drei Netzwerkkarten drin, Intel Gigabit e1000, 3COM 3c59x und AMD PCINet). Das daraus entstandene bzImage liegt als vmlinuz-2.6.4.52-default auf dem hauptserver in /srv/tftboot. Die daraus entstandenen Module liegen als /lib/modules/2.6.4-52 auf dem vdrserver in /srv/tftboot/linvdr/lib/moduls. Beim Übersetzen der Module muss man die Firmware einkomplieren, vorher von linuxtv.org runterladen.


    Dann habe ich im LinVDR im rcStart die Netzwerksachen geändert:

    Das heisst ich habe den mount -a nach hintengelegt weil ich auch video0 und video1 von meinem vdrserver per nfs mounte und habe lediglich das loopback device gestartet, portmap und sshd (Das Starten des eth0 ist ja schon beim Booten passiert, IP-Adresse haben wir auch schon und die resolv.conf habe ich auch manuell erstellt).

    nforce in den Kernel einbauen müsste ich dachte ich kann mir dies sparen über ich weiß es ja leider

  • Ich entnehme Deinem ersten Absatz, dass die nForce Treiber nur als Binaries verfügbar sind und somit nicht in den Kernel integriert werden können.

    Die Erste Frage ist ob es möglich ist forcedeth zu integrieren und eine Diskless daraus machen zu konnen.


    Die 2 Frage ist wenn man ein Karte hat wie Reatec 81339too auch über pxe starten kann auch ohne
    Boot rom auf der Karten einbauen zu mussen. :)

    Ich habe den Kernel 2.6.5 von der SuSE zum Teil für die linvdr linken können . Startet sogar . man staune. Die Module von der forcedeth könnte ich ab der 2.6 reinlinken.
    Kann der pxelinux.0 auf kernel > 1 Mb laden? Meiner hat immer hin 1.6 Mb. Ich habe es noch auch mein klassiche Art mit bootp und über den bootloader zum Testen geht es schon mal.
    das pxelinux.cfg/default kann das auch grosser Kernel laden?

    bin auch gerade dabei einen Diskless Klient (LinVDR) aufzubauen.
    der Kernel bootet, mounted das NFS Filsystem, aber wenn es an das abarbeiten der rcStart geht, kommt ein Fehler:

    Das hört sich stark danach an, daß das mouten des rootfs nicht sauber geklappt hat.


    Und Du bist sicher, daß der Kernel NFS mountet? Auf dem Server steht im Logfile was von "authenticated mount request" oder so? Existiert der export- Pfad? Was hast Du in den Export- Pfad reinkopiert? Ist das eine 1:1 Kopie? Gib mal ein paar mehr Infos.

  • Ich habe mir jeden Thread der sich über die Suchfunktion finden lies mehmals durchgelesen, dieses ist meines Wissens der einziege, der sich direkt auf LinVDR bezieht. rschneid hat es ja offensichtlich auch hinbekommen.
    Am Kernel kann es eigendlich nicht liegen, er funktioniert ja mit MiniVDR, und MiniVDR basiert auf Suse 8.2


    Angepasst habe ich die Zeilen 16 - 29 (auskommentiert) damit man überhaupt was sieht

    Jau, stimmt, jetzt sehe ich es auch:


    DAS ist ziemlich ungünstig, in der Tat- da war ich auf dem falschen Dampfer mit binaries.
