Hi Ebus,

What version of hdmi cable are you using 1.4 , 1.3 or 1.2 ?

This can be important for good quality playback.

I use Hdmi 1.4 and good quality cable.

Update to Kodi 16 :

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc/xbmc-nightly
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install kodi

If you have any addons (such as PVR clients), these must be updated as well (they will not be updated automatically).

Settings > video > acceleration > render method > software

I have render method set to AUTO DETECT and is ok but you can use SOFTWARE.

No problems for me , i only run 1080p movies. If you try to play games , this will not work well.

The way i installed v2.88 is without the nvidia 720 .

- Connect vga lead from avg2 to vga connection on tv.

- Insert bm2lts v2.88 iso image into dvd read/writer ( i have my image on pendrive - faster install )

- Go through the install steps 1, 2 and 3. ( Make sure you select INTERNAL NETCEIVER )

- There is a step nr. 4 , here you can select which vdr version to use.

I selected vdr 1.7.29.9 as this is the most stable.

- Power Off

- Now install the nvidia 720 and Restart.

You should have eHD and nvidia 720 working.

No additional settings required , unless you want them.

Configure the vdr - channel lists etc.....

meanwhild I modified my heat sink and everthing works fine, as you have described it.
One more question:
Have you tested to use a remote control for kodi, e.g. via the pulse-eight CEC adapter (https://www.pulse-eight.com/p/104/usb-hdmi-cec-adapter) of via MCE remote? I use the pulse-eight adapter on an other HTPC with Kodi and this works fine. Or is there a possibility to "forward" the remote control fram AVG/VDR to Kodi?

I have tried using the original avg2 remote for Kodi but with no success.

The pulse-eight CEC adapter seems a good idea and see no reason why it should not work with the avg2.

At the moment i am using a Trust Wireless keyboard + trackball + scroll wheel and works well.

There is a way to configure any remote to be used with avg2 but it is complicated .

ich habe nun die GT 720 eingebaut, aber 3D ruckt noch schlimmer als mit der Geforce 210. Ich befürchte, dass mein lüfterloses Netzteil (120W) einfach zu schwach ist. Hat vielleicht noch jemand ein Netzteil mit Lüfter liegen?

die GT720 ruckelt leider bei 3D Material. Phasenweise läuft alles, plötzlich fängt es an. Als wenn die Karte zu heiß wär. Deshalb kann ich mir fast keine Stomversorgungsproblem vorstellen. Bei 2D (1080p) läuft alles recht gut. Oder ist die AVG2 einfach zu alt (für einen Herzschrittmacher).
Es wär super, wenn jemand seine Erfahrungen mit 3D mitteilen könnte.

The AVG2 is not designed for ( 3D ) movies as the processor is not powerful enough.

However, 3D acceleration for normal 1080p is perfect.

You need the NUC for 3D movies.

ich habe nun viel getestet. Mit Version 1.94.3A und Treiber 331.67 läuft sogar 3D flüssig (mit Treiber 340 ruckelig). In v2.88 RC9 wird Treiber 340.93 als installiert angezeigt. In #12 wird die Installation auf nvidia-331-331.113 beschrieben.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa -y
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-3.16.0-46-lowlatency
sudo apt-get install nvidia-331

Danach fährt die Box leider nicht mehr hoch.
Wie bekomme ich nvidia-331installiert?

ich habe ein ganz ähnliches Problem wie Ebus.
Allerdings habe ich nur ein "normales" Update (apt-get update / upgrade / dist-upgrade) durchgeführt.
Die Box hängt sich komplett auf und ich bekomme auch ein grünlich hinterlegte Bildschirmanzeige wie im Screenshot von Ebus zu sehen.
Ich habe v2.88 RC9 komplett neu installiert. Vor dem online Update funktioniert alles einwandfrei. Nach dem Update tritt wieder das exakt gleiche Problem auf.
Beim Update kommt folgende Warnmeldung, mit der ich aber nicht viel anfangen kann:

update-alternatives: Warnung: Neuinstallation der Alternative /usr/lib/nvidia-340-updates/ld.so.conf ist erzwungen, weil Linkgruppe i386-linux-gnu_gl_conf defekt ist
	update-alternatives: Warnung: Erstellung von /usr/lib32/vdpau/libvdpau_nvidia.so.1 wird übersprungen, weil die zugehörige Datei /usr/lib32/nvidia-340-updates/vdpau/libvdpau_nvidia.so.1 (der Link-Gruppe i386-linux-gnu_gl_conf) nicht existiert

Ich habe dann - via chroot - all nvidia Treiber deinstalliert und neu installiert, das hat aber keine Verbesserung gebracht.

BM2LTS with nvidia-340-updates does not work.

Nvidia-331-updates-dev is the one that works.

Solution :

1 - Go to SYNAPTIC > nvidia

2 - Select the following :

- nvidia-331-updates-dev > package > lock version
- nvidia-340-updates-dev > package > lock version
- libcuda-340-updates > package > lock version
- nvidia-340-updates > package > lock version

3 - Reload

This is what i have configured and problem solved.

Funktioniert jetzt. Ich nutze allerdings nicht Synaptic sondern apt-get und habe insofern folgende Befehle genutzt (vielleicht hat ja noch jemand das Problem):
sudo apt-mark hold nvidia-331-updates-dev
sudo apt-mark hold nvidia-340-updates-dev
sudo apt-mark hold libcuda1-340-updates
sudo apt-mark hold nvidia-340-updates

Ich werde in der Zukunft mit dist-upgrade vorsichtiger sein

ich habe gerade versucht die aktuelle Version zu installieren. Es kommt beim booten (mit eingebauter Nvidia Karte), nachdem einige Bootmeldungen normal durchgelaufen sind ein grünlich hinterlegter Bildschirm und die AVG II hängt sich komplett auf (vgl. Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS - Problem & Lösungen mit NVIDIA Treiberinstallation). Ich nehme an, dass es eine "Unverträglichkeit" mit der Nvidia-Karte und den aktuellen Treibern ist.
Gibt es eine Möglichkeit durch Boot- Kernelparameter (z.B. nomodeset, nvidia.modeset=0) hier weiterzukommen. Die beiden genannten Parameter haben allerdings keine Verbesserung gebracht. Gibt es noch weitere Möglichkeiten (außer die Nvidia Karte auszubauen :)).

Mir sind insbesondere zwei Fehlermeldungen aufgefallen " dpkg: error processing package nvidia-prime (--purge)" und "missing /lib/modules/3.16.0-49-lowlatency".
Wenn ich dann trotzdem versuche andere Nvidia Treiber zu installieren kommt auch wieder die Fehlermeldung zu nvidia-prime

Eigentlich sollte das nicht daran liegen, dass ich in einer chroot Umgebung bin, oder?
Für chroot nutze ich folgende Kommandos:

mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/custom
mount -t devtmpfs /dev /mnt/custom/dev
mount -t devpts /dev/pts /mnt/custom/dev/pts
mount -t sysfs /sys /mnt/custom/sys
mount -t proc /proc /mnt/custom/proc
mount -t tmpfs /run /mnt/custom/run
mount -o bind /etc/resolv.conf /mnt/custom/etc/resolv.conf
chroot /mnt/custom /bin/bash

Da sich die AVG II komplett aufhängt, kann ich auch nicht so ohneweiteres logs des Bootprozesses posten.
Was kann ich noch ausprobieren?

es scheint in der Tat via chroot ein Problem zu sein.
Ich habe die Nvidia Karte also temporär ausgebaut. Hatte dann aber immer noch ein Problem einer Fehlermeldung bzgl. fehlender dpkg.conf.
So hat es bei mir im Ergebnis funktioniert (falls noch jemand das Problem haben sollte):

apt-get install linux-headers-3.16.0-55-lowlatency
	# Following errormessage could be ignored
	# Error! Could not locate dkms.conf file.
        # File:  does not exist.
	apt-get install linux-image-3.16.0-49-lowlatency
