problems with XineLibOutput

  • Hello fellow VDR users :)

I'm currently having some issues with the xineliboutput plugin. im running LinuxMCE with the VDR part and when im watching Live tv. i'm constantly getting a picture with artifacts and sometimes popping audio. also to mention, after i have watched a minute og so, the image starts to slow down and the audio dissapear. if i scroll away and back again to the same channel i can watch a minute and all starts over again.

my tv tuner card is a budget Kworld DVB-T 210

    rest of the media center:
    CPU: 2.8 Ghz intel celeron
    Ram: 1024 Mb
    MB: Asus P4S533-X
    GFX: Nvidia GeForce 6200A 256MB
    Sound: Sound Blaster Audigy

    distance from transponder: 7 km

does anybody have a clue what the problem could be?

    thanks in advance :)

  • Maybe the log can help .
Which entries appear in your /var/log/syslog in that situation?
Which vdr version and which plugins are you running?

  • Hi,

also check the receiption quality of the broadcast you are trying to watch. I also get this in this case.

You can do it with either femon from the command line or simply use the femon plugin

  • hi again :)

i have done a little research...

    vdr version and plugins:
Linux Video Disk Recorder - LMCE VERSION 1.4.7
plugins (VDR 1.4.7/1.4.5): control xineliboutput femon.

maybe its me that is dump, but how do i make the femon plugin show up when VDR is active? :$

just ask, if you need more information :)

  • Uhh, for me this looks very bad.
    I always had these

    Code
    PES packet shortened ...
    ...
cTS2PES got 49811 TS errors, 24431 TS continuity errors

with a bad connection. So skan! seems to be right.
Or maybe someone has another purpose for these messages.

So check your reception quality. Femon should be in the VDR top level OSD menu.

What kind of DVB-... do you use? Try to move your sat dish or antenna.

  • hi again :)

    i'm using DVB-T.

i havent got the femon plugin to work, i cant make it show an osd for some weird reason.
but in the living room i have a combined DVB-T, DVB-S and satellite receiver, and it says that the signal strength is about 95%, i receive the signal from the same antenna mounted on the roof.

i wondered if i could get image artifacts due to a signal thats too strong?

    cheers tuxilinx :)

You can use femon on the console while the vdr is running:
    http://www.vdr-wiki.de/wiki/index.php/Dvb-apps_femon

    Important are BER and UNC

Yes, a to strong singnal can lead to artifacts. Also a "bad" DVB-T card can be the reason. Some cards work good even with bad/weak signals... while some cards are only leading to artifacts.

  • Hello tuxilinx,

unhappily you did not mention by which way you get your tv-picture. If you are using xine-ui, did you think about adjusting the graphic options? Do you have the right gfx-driver for X-Windows?
