vdr 1.7.15 "device has no MPEG decoder"

  • (Please excuse writing in English)

    I upgraded from a working 1.6.0 to 1.7.15.
My full featured card worked fine in 1.6, but shows this in 1.7.15

    Jul 10 10:31:09 server vdr: [2987] frontend 0/0 provides DVB-S with QPSK ("ST STV0299 DVB-S")
    Jul 10 10:31:09 server vdr: [2987] frontend 1/0 provides DVB-S with QPSK ("VLSI VES1x93 DVB-S")Jul 10 10:31:09 server vdr: [2987] frontend 2/0 provides DVB-S with QPSK ("ST STV0299 DVB-S")Jul 10 10:31:09 server vdr: [2987] frontend 3/0 provides DVB-S with QPSK ("ST STV0299 DVB-S")
Jul 10 10:31:09 server vdr: [2987] found 4 DVB devicesJul 10 10:31:09 server vdr: [2987] initializing plugin: epgsearch (0.9.25.beta17): search the EPG for repeats and more
Jul 10 10:31:09 server vdr: [2987] initializing plugin: streamdev-server (0.5.0-rc2): VDR Streaming Server
Jul 10 10:31:09 server vdr: [2987] setting primary device to 2Jul 10 10:31:09 server vdr: [2987] device 2 has no MPEG decoder

Modules exactly as before, if I switch links to the old version and reboot all is well, switch to new and I get this error.lspc

The card is the full-featured Technotrend DVB-S

  • FF card support changed since vdr 1.7.11:

    http://projects.vdr-developer.org/projects/vdr/news

The support for full featured DVB cards of the TT/FuSi design has been moved
into the new plugin 'dvbsddevice'. On systems that use such a card as their
primary device, this plugin now needs to be loaded when running VDR in order
to view live or recorded video. If the plugin is not loaded, the card will
be treated like a budget DVB card, and there will be no OSD or viewing
    capability.

  • Hi John,

try adding the plugin "dvbsddevice" to your plugin list. The plugin comes with the standard VDR package.
( During the development of version 1.7 Klaus Schmidinger decided to swap the code for dvb-view to a plugin. Should have better stated that in the README i think *g*).

If you compiled VDR yourself, you should add the plugin to your runvdr - script. Add "-Pdvbsddevice" to it.

When using a VDR distribution try installing the plugin. Should be called "vdr-plugin-dvbsddevice" or smth with "dvbsddevice" in it.
