[resolved] Guide installation VDR in Ubuntu 13.10: Remote TV and control with tablet android (step by step)

  • Great that it works somehow :)

    Have a look to
    http://www.vdr-wiki.de/wiki/index.php/Remote.conf

    You should have a

    /var/lib/vdr/remote.conf

You will need for the "VDR X-Frontend"
    The following content

    Code
    /var/lib/vdr/remote.conf

Remember before changing config-files always stop the vdr service. You already know how to do that :)

Btw. you can use google-translate to transate a full website. Maybe this helps:
    http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=en&tl=it&js=n&prev=_t&hl=de&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.vdr-portal.de%2Fboard16-video-disk-recorder%2Fboard4-vdr-installation%2F122158-guide-vdr-ubuntu-13-10%2F&act=url

    Joe

  • Even if I lose more time
I try to always explain step by step
What do I do and what happens
to be useful to others :)

Step 10 ) Activate the menu

    stop the service

    Code
    sudo service vdr stop

    Create the file "remote.conf"

    Code
    sudo gedit /var/lib/vdr/remote.conf

Paste the contents, save and close.

    start the service

    Code
    sudo service vdr start

    and it works
thanks as always to Joe! :)

    and finally
know how to operate the remote control?
You will not believe but I've never used linux.
I took pictures of the old box TV card
    Terratec HTpci:

  • Quote" You will not believe but I've never used linux. "
    I truly believe you :]

Please remove the big pictures - they are not helpful.

What you will most likely need is LIRC or ir_core
    http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Lirc
(google translate does not work with that page)
    http://www.vdr-wiki.de/wiki/index.php/Rc_core

Was the remote working with your old Ubuntu?
    Look for lirc.conf
    and hardware.conf
at your old installation and post them here.

    Please post:

    Code
    sudo cat /proc/bus/input/devices
    sudo lsusb
    sudo lspci

It might be that the IR Sensor is not supported.

  • Hello Joe
    and thanks as always
    Your competence rare
    and your patience!

    In the old Ubuntu 10
the remote does not l0ho ever used.

The remote control uses a receiver
with the cable type mini jack (not USB)
plugged into the same card Terratec.

    Command 1 : sudo cat /proc/bus/input/devices

    Command 2: sudo lsusb

    Code
    dan13@dan13-EP41T-UD3L:~$ sudo lsusb
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 005 Device 003: ID 05a4:1700 Ortek Technology, Inc.
Bus 005 Device 002: ID 1bcf:05cf Sunplus Innovation Technology Inc. Micro keyboard & mouse receiver
Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 004 Device 002: ID 046d:c31c Logitech, Inc. Keyboard K120 for Business
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub

    Command 3: sudo lspci

    ciao
    Daniele

  • It looks like it will not work.
There are no input devices visible.

You can try to buy this Remote with USB Dongle:
    http://www.amazon.de/Hama-Remote-Control-PC-Fernbedienung-andere/dp/B000X1EL4W/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1392043476&sr=1-1&keywords=mce+remote
This remote is not the best choice for VDR or Linux in general.
Other options are way more complicated so I'm afraid you will have big problems.

Remote controls are always a little bit tricky so it is difficult to give you any help. I am sorry.
Io non posso aiutarti con il telecomando! ;(

You could ask the user "ranseyer" if he will sell you his newly designed usb remote reciever:
Platinen oder Fertiggerät USB-Einschalter und IR-Receiver

If you have an android phone or tablet connected by wifi to the same network as your ubuntu-computer you could try:
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.androvdr&hl=it

Configuring VDR to work with the Android - remote is easy if the network is working. I think there I can help you.

  • Ciao
    Joe

I chose a card Terratec TV because I thought it was perfectly compatible with linux .
    What a pity ! ;(

    Perhaps the problem of
is due because the cable with the detector was placed
    into the wrong socket
    "FM" for the radio antenna
rather than opens " R / M" for remote control
as seen in the photos I took
    (after removing the card) ?

    [Blockierte Grafik: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/46733398/ubuntu%20forum/vdr/2014-02-10%2021.49.38.jpg]

Although maybe I'm out of the way
    nonc'è and nothing to do,
Now the handset cord is inserted in the "R / M"
    as in the picture .

    ciao
    Daniele

  • I am rather sure that it will not work because there are no rules for your card defined in the driver.
    Line 246 downward
No entry for Terratec HT PCI ;(

    but one last attemt:

    post:

    Code
    sudo lsmod
    sudo modinfo cx88_core
    sudo modinfo cx88xx
    sudo modinfo cx23885

  • I'm sure if you say
it is true that it is difficult.

In fact, now that I remember
It was not easy to do recognize the TV card in linux.
and I found the solution here:
    http://forum.ubuntu-it.org/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=298450&start=20#p2235209
    http://www.mjmwired.net/kernel/Documentation/video4linux/extract_xc3028.pl

Now I try the commands you suggested:

    sudo lsmod:

    sudo modinfo cx88_core:

    Code
    dan13@dan13-EP41T-UD3L:~$ sudo modinfo cx88_core
    ERROR: Module cx88_core not found.

    sudo modinfo cx88xx:

    sudo modinfo cx88xx:

    T Do not worry.
I do not want too approfittarmi
    and go too off-topic. ?(
If you do not solve the problem
    I can advise
    for the future
    some model of TV card
    kind or brand
    easier to install,
    and more compatible with linux
and then with one of the best TV programs comw VDR?

    Then we can see:
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.androvdr&hl=it
I installed the app on my android phone with wifi connected

  • There are some parameters for IR in the modules but I think there is no big chance of getting it to work.

It looks like there might be is a bug in the driver for other cards - but that should be fixed for saucy...
    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/836062

The recommendation for the future is to ask in the forum first and then buy a new card.

    all the best,
    Joe

  • Okay let's try the AndroVDR remote:

    Please post:

    Code
    sudo ifconfig

Look for your the IP address for the eth0 card.
    Remember this IP

From what I have seen it should be in the
    192.168.1.x range ?

    In that case edit

    Code
    /var/lib/vdr/svdrphosts.conf

    to this:

Then start the AndroVDR app on your phone and hit the [...] button, select > Impostazioni, select > Dispositivi,
    Select "nuova vdr"
    Nome : Ubuntu Saucy VDR
Sistema: 192.168.1.??? < the Ip adress of you PC
    Porta: 6419

the other options we can skip for the while, return using the "Android back" button [Blockierte Grafik: http://www.samsung.com/us/system/support/content/2012/08/15/h7950/android_back_key.gif]

    That's it :)
    It should work now

    Ciao,
    Joe

  • step 1)

    is "inet": 192.168.1.7 or "Bcast": 192.168.1.127 ?

  • Step 2)

    Code
    sudo gedit /var/lib/vdr/svdrphosts.conf

    or in my case

    Code
    sudo gedit /etc/vdr/svdrphosts.conf

    by so :

    in so :

    step 3 )

Then start the AndroVDR app on your phone and hit the [...] button, select > Impostazioni, select > Dispositivi,
    Select "nuova vdr"
    Nome : Ubuntu Saucy VDR
Sistema: 192.168.1.??? < the Ip adress of you PC
    Porta: 6419

the other options we can skip for the while, return using the "Android back" button

    and...
    funziona ! :]
    works ! :tup

    Before putting "resolved"
(As you put "solved" in this discussion?)
I discovered a flaw in full screen
incomplete, as cut with a strip
    in the right-hand edge
    and the lower edge
    on my monitor set to 1920 x 1080 (16:9)
    24 inches, HDMI
    [Blockierte Grafik: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/46733398/ubuntu%20forum/vdr/schermo%201920%20x%201080%2024%20pollici.png]

    Strange because in Ubuntu 10
    did not do it!

  • The second version would work but it is better to use this one as I have posted before.

And you need to stop vdr and start it after the changes.

  • You can try to close the "VDR X-Frontend" and open a terminal window and type:

    Code
    vdr-sxfe --fullscreen --aspect=16:9 xvdr+tcp://127.0.0.1

    Is this working? Fullscreen ?

I'm not the expert for vdr-sfxe, but this was the easiest way to get it running for you...

    Maybe someone else can help...

    Edit:
If found that it is related to the animations of the compiz window manager.
Look in the system setting for the desktop animations:
    http://reformedmusings.files.w…/ubuntu-animation-set.png

and there edited for the "Close Animation" section
the line that contains "WindowMatch" "type=normal"
and add at the end of the line

    Code
    & !(class=VDR)

  • OK
waiting for the solution to this particular problem last graph....

My wife went crazy with happiness
    playing with remote control
from your mobile phone with Android. :D

    Happiness is when
we are content with the small things!
    :)

    :) :) that's why I love linux
because what you do for yourself you do for others
    :) :)

    ____________________________________________
Excuse me if I ask you
something that has nothing to do with the VDR.

Happen to know for video surveillance
    some active forum
    or an easy guide
    to MOTION
    or on ZONEMINDER
    or similar?

  • Congratulation

Mark as solved editing your first post and add solved in the headline

    regards

    Andy

  • OK grazie Andy
    will be done!
