unlike other manufacturers TBS provide Linux support and there is fully functional Linux driver for TBS 6980 on the installation CD that you will receive with the cards, "linux_tbs_all.rar" on the website is Linux driver package for all older products. so, do not worry about that.however, TBS 6980 uses some very new chips and some small part of the current Linux driver is a binary module. more specific we can't open-source the driver for the front-end at this point in time for number of reasons and that part of the driver is a binary module, but the rest of the driver is open source.
it's not a limitation, because that doesn't prevent the driver to work with different Linux distributions and kernels and we officially provide Linux support in case of troubles. also, when the time is right we will open-source the front-end driver too.
i hope even that it's not entirely open-souce you will like the driver, because it has some very nice features like signal strength reporting in dBm, SNR reporting in EsNo, options to activate phase noise enhancement, uncorrectable block reporting for DVB-S2 (not for DVB-S only), etc.
