    https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/proper-va-api-support/305066

  • OK OK found Nvidia-Settings and start it.
Go to X Server Display Configuration/Advanced/ set a Hook by Force Full Composition Pipeline then klick Apply.
The Screen goes shortly black. After that no more Tearing in Firefox/YouTube :)

To make this permanent I klick Save to x Configuration File.
A lil Window pops up with the Save-Path /etc/X11/xorg.conf where I klick Save.

Another lil Windows shows an Write-Error - Unable to open x configuration file /etc/X11/xorg.conf for writing.
    No matter which User I'am.

The formerly Save-Windows has a Button Show preview that show's the Code for manually copy/paste to the xorg.conf

But again, no matter which User I'm, the System don't let me write the edited xorg.conf :(

  • You can either run nvidia-settings with elevated permissions (so it can write to /etc/X11/xorg.conf), save the xorg.conf to another place and move it later or enable it directly in the xorg.conf (or the template for the file: https://github.com/yavdr/yavdr-an…org.conf.j2#L74 for Ubuntu 26.04 resp. https://github.com/yavdr/yavdr-an…es/xorg.conf.j2 for Ubuntu 20.04 to 24.04 ).

IIRC there were some performance issues with the forced Full Composition Pipeline enabled on some systems, but given the suported range of Nvidia cards on Ubuntu 26.04 this should not be a problem anymore.

  • I found this wonderful Line in the Template "{ForceCompositionPipeline=Off, ForceFullCompositionPipeline=Off}" and would set the Off's to On.

Can you explain what I must do (howto) ?

Hmmm, I found the xorg.conf.j2 in /home/username/yavdr-ansible/roles/yavdr-xorg/templates/ as the Normal-User, the vdr-User has no yavdr-ansible Folder in his Home-Folder.

I edited the xorg.conf-j2 File's Line "{ForceCompositionPipeline=On, ForceFullCompositionPipeline=On}" and write it. Then I restart the Machine and controled that both Values are On which was so.

Sadly the Nvidia-Setting don't mirror this Setting's ... the Fields there are not checked :/
