This will be a chicken and egg problem for some time. Software support, available hardware (incl 4k TVs) and of course content.

Now we already have some test submissions of UHD content (like in the early days of HDTV), hardware support seems to be on the way http://www.fudzilla.com/home/item/3469…to-support-h265 and 4K TVs are becoming less expensive (now that the industrie is moving away from large screen OLED again).
It's a little to late for mainstream adoption for this years world cup, but I forsee that early adoption will start in late 2014/early 2015 with some significant market share just before Euro2016
