Three FF-cards in one system

  • Hey everybody,

this post is maybe quiet or very similar to the one that Trellis sended
but i wanted to ask this for my own system because i want to be sure
    for doing nothing wrong.
I installed already one airstar 2 dvb-t card in my FedoraCore5-system and
it works very good with VDR.
Now i also want to put a second and a third card(the same a the first one) in
    my system.
Is there something i must know before putting the cards in the system
or can i should put the card in the system, reboot and it works?
I don't want to screw my working system through these upgrade.
    Thanks in advance!!

    Sincerly,
    Mff

  • Hi,
    Simpli insert the cards.
if you don't get any I/O or interrupt Conflicts, they should work at next boot.
Take a look at "/proc/interrupts" and try to use these PCI's where you don't have shared interrupts with the DVB-cards.
Sometimes it works with shared interrupts also, but sometimes shared interrupts causes problems under heavy load.

  • I installed the cards and they where recognized
after reboot. But i still have a issue with this.
When i put the coax-cable in card0 and start the vdr with this command:./vdr -Pxineliboutput
When i put the coax-cable in card1 or in card2, it also starts vdr but then i could not receive
any picture. I think it's because vdr uses card0 by default so i have to give an extra
option where i say that it should use card1 or card2.
I tried to look for it but i seems like there are no options in vdr like the one i need.
Can somebody please give me a little advice with this?
    Thanks in advance

  • Just give all cards a signal ;) - why do you want to use 3 cards, but only one connection?

To test the card, you can edit the CA-Id of a channel, CA:1 means card 1, CA: 2 card 2 and so on ...

  • yes, i first wanted to test the cards separately
by using one coax-cable in just one card.
    How can i change/edit the CA-id of a channel.
I think that's really something that i can use but i have no idea
    who to edit this.
Can you please give me the commands to do this.
    Thanks warmly!!

    Best Regards

  • Either edit the ca-field of the channel in the channels.conf or use a remote osd (e.g. with the remote-plugin) and select edit channel from the channels list.

    from man vdr:

    Code
    -D num, --device=num
Use only the given DVB device (num = 0, 1, 2...). There may be
several -D options (by default all DVB devices will be used).

    Cheers,

    Udo

  • Which is absolutely the cleaner solution :schiel :)
