Problem with FF card rev 1.3 and 2.6 kernel(s)

  • Hi,

    I've tried the latest distributions for VDR (Linvdr, CT-VDR, Kanotix-VDR, etc..), they have all problems with my FF DVB-S (rev 1.3), lspci gives: 01:08.0 Multimedia controller: Philips Semiconductors SAA7146 (rev 01). The devices are made in /dev/dvb/adater0, but VDR can't connect to it, kanotix-vdr gives NO SIGNAL, when i boot to my 2.4 kernel on HD, there is signal and i can watch TV.

    This is weird, while the rev 1.3 FF cards are supported.

    Can't find the problem, i've tried different firmware in /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware, /var/log/messages or /var/log/syslog or dmesg doesn't give any solution.

    The thing i can see is that VDR can't find a primary device.

    Does someone have a solution for this, i can understand that VDR will use in the future only 2.6 kernel(s).

  • Please post the output of 'lspci -vn' for your card and relevant debug messages from /var/log/syslog or /var/log/messages.

  • With 2.6 drivers card id 13c2:0004 is not supported yet. There is only a comment:
    /* MAKE_EXTENSION_PCI(???, 0x13c2, 0x0004), UNDEFINED CARD */ // Galaxis DVB PC-Sat-Carte

    Is your card a Galaxis DVB-S Rev 1.3?

  • It will be supported, of course. Please try the attached patch.

    Obviously, when the 2.6 driver was put together, nobody cared to provide some missing information. :(

    I had to put and remove the lines of the .diff manually into av7110.c:

    starting at line 2285 and stopping at 2294:

    case 0x0002: // Hauppauge/TT DVB-C premium rev2.X

    av7110->fe = ves1820_attach(&alps_tdbe2_config, &av7110->i2c_adap, read_pwm(av7110)
    break;

    (2285) case 0x0004: // Galaxis DVB-S rev1.3
    /* ALPS BSRV2 */
    av7110->fe = ves1x93_attach(&alps_bsrv2_config, &av7110->i2c_adap);
    if (av7110->fe) {
    av7110->fe->ops->diseqc_send_master_cmd = av7110_diseqc_send_master_cmd;
    av7110->fe->ops->diseqc_send_burst = av7110_diseqc_send_burst;
    av7110->fe->ops->set_tone = av7110_set_tone;
    !!!!!! do not use this line from the .diff, it will not compile, remove it !!!!!!! av7110->recover = dvb_s_recover;

    }
    break;

    (2295) case 0x0006: /* Fujitsu-Siemens DVB-S rev 1.6 */
    /* Grundig 29504-451 */
    av7110->fe = tda8083_attach(&grundig_29504_451_config, &av7110->i2c_adap);

    starting at line 2894:

    (2894) MAKE_AV7110_INFO(gxs_1_3, "Galaxis DVB-S rev1.3");

    remove line 2909:

    (2909) MAKE_EXTENSION_PCI(???, 0x13c2, 0x0004), UNDEFINED CARD */ // Galaxis DVB PC-Sat-Carte

    So now it is usable for the kernel 2.6.15

    The firmware of linvdr is not working, you have to download an other firmware to use the card.

  • Ok, I'll add it to the repository...

  • ... OK, this means the patch is now in the CVS repository? So when I update the DVB drivers for the Update-CD next time we all will have that working driver?

    No, it's in the new Mercurial v4l-dvb repository.

    CVS has recently been replaced by Mercurial (aka Hg). v4l-dvb CVS is obsolete and will not be updated anymore. See http://linuxtv.org/cvs.php

    Yep.
