As most commandline tools, it wrote to stdout, not to file.
You have to redirect stdout to a file, using 'tee' command or redirect operator '>'. And, after checking it, copy it to it's destination.
(your used commandline) > ~/channels.conf
.. or
(your used commandline) | tee ~/channels.conf
And for copying dont forget to stop vdr first.
