Sky Uk users - Channels.conf

  • Hi all,

    I created a simple perl script that will download the channel names and epg categories from Sky epg online service. It will then create a nicely formatted channels.conf with the proper epg categories.

    Copy the following code into a file called Sky_to_vdrchannels.pl.

    Stop vdr and you should be able to do run this all in one go. Like this

    Code
    sudo w_scan -f s -cGB -sS28E2 -a /dev/dvb/adapter0/  channels_temp.conf;perl Sky_to_vdrchannels.pl>channels.conf

    The end result is a channels.conf file formatted like this

    Code
    :=== Entertainment ===
    BBC 1 London;BSkyB:10773:hC56:S28.5E:22000:5000:5001=eng,5002=NAR:5003:0:6301:2:2045:0
    BBC 2 England;BSkyB:10773:hC56:S28.5E:22
    :=== Lifestyle & Culture ===
    Disc.RealTime;BSkyB:11875:hC23:S28.5E:27500:2313:2314=eng,2315=NAR:2316:960,961,963:6203:2:2009:0
    Disc.RT+1;BSkyB:11390:hC23:S28.5E:27500:2313:2314=eng,2315=NAR:2316:960,961,963:52445:2:2315:0000:5100:5101=eng,5102=NAR:5103:0:6302:2:2045:0

    THre are a couple of things the script relies on a file called channels_temp.conf is the same directory. (No need for this if you use my above example how to run). You could use a conf file from
    hxxp://www.vdr-settings.com/download/channels/S28.2E_channels.conf. and rename to channels_temp.conf and use that instead, but i've not tried. Also I couldn't change the epg region from sky's website so it's stuck the default uk region, which should be fine for most.

    its my first contribution so hope it's useful to someone

    Chris

  • Sorry for necro bump but this is pretty cool.

    Is there any way to get it to sort the channels in the way of the HD boxes.

    If not I'll just have to manually edit.

    Thanks for the script.

  • Hi,

    How can you get sky encrypted channels into yavdr? Is there a DVB S2 PCI/USB device which accepts a Sky viewing card? Or are you getting the input somehow out of the sky box into a DVB? I didn't know this was possible

    VDR Server (Ubuntu 64bit 11.10 server) - Case: Antec 300, Mobo: Asus P5QL/EPU, CPU: Dual Core E5200, RAM: 4gb, DVB-S2: Tevii S660 & L4M-Twin S2 v6.2, SAS/SATA RAID CARD: Supermicro AOC-USAS-L8I, HDDs: 1*SSD for OS, 10 drives
    Client (Ubuntu 11.10) - Acer Revo R3610, Logitech Harmony 650

  • Well, for a start a channel scan of the sat position s28.2e finds all FTA and all encrypted channels. Just because they are part of a channel list doesn't mean that one can decode them. Next to that, one can buy a DVB card with CI slot to insert a CAM module.

    Cheers

    I am using oscam to read my sky card in my vuduo box and then using the vdr sc plugin to connect to oscam from my computer.

    Thanks for the links. I think I have already tried that conf from your first link. Didn't seem to work properly for me iirc.
    Would really love it if the channelpedia could somehow list confs grouped like they would be on a retail box.

  • shelf: I've put an updated copy of my (live) channels.conf on the thread at yaVDR forums here. Hopefully it works for you.

    Thank you very much. My 6 monthly search for decent sky uk channels.conf finally pays off.

    I can verify it is working for me. Is there any place where you keep an up to date version?

    Thanks again oldmanuk you have saved me a lot of time and effort.
