Haupauge Nexus boot Error

  • Hi,

I have a Haupauge Nexus S, Revision 2.1. Cold booting my PC after it was turned off for a while, I get an error message in the boot log. (dmesg).

    Here is the error message:

    Code
    Linux video capture interface: v1.00
    saa7146: register extension 'dvb'.
    ACPI: PCI interrupt 0000:00:0b.0[A] -> GSI 7 (level, low) -> IRQ 7
    saa7146: found saa7146 @ mem c8ada000 (revision 1, irq 7) (0x13c2,0x0003).
DVB: registering new adapter (Technotrend/Hauppauge WinTV Nexus-S rev2.X).
adapter has MAC addr = 00:d0:5c:23:7b:0f
    dvb-ttpci: av7110_fw_query error
dvb-ttpci: failed to boot firmware @ card 0

A second cold boot solves the promlem and the dvb-card starts up fine. A reser or reboot doesn't help. It has to be a cold boot.

Has somebody a solution for this problem?

    Thanks for your help.

    Cheers

  • Hi Roman,

I cannot offer any help. But you are not alone.

dmesg on a brand new pundit-r with nexus-s 2.2, Technisat Skystar 2.6c hows

    (none):~# dmesg

    Linux video capture interface: v1.00
    saa7146: register extension 'dvb'.
    saa7146: found saa7146 @ mem cca12000 (revision 1, irq 5) (0x13c2,0x0003).
DVB: registering new adapter (Technotrend/Hauppauge WinTV Nexus-S rev2.X).
adapter has MAC addr = 00:d0:5c:24:ab:08
    dvb-ttpci: av7110_fw_query error
dvb-ttpci: failed to boot firmware @ card 0

I can get successful boots once in a while. I tried several new installs with ctvdr 3.06. No help.

    Kind Regards

  • Hi,

Sorry for anwering so late. Was on holiday :)

I'm using linvdr version 0.7 (0.6 had the same problem)

No, loading the drivers again doesn't help.

    Regarding interrupts:

With a working vdr the interrupts look like:

    CPU0
    0: 49612 XT-PIC timer
    1: 188 XT-PIC i8042
    2: 0 XT-PIC cascade
    7: 43967 XT-PIC saa7146 (0)
    8: 1 XT-PIC rtc
    9: 21 XT-PIC acpi, uhci_hcd, eth0
    14: 1370 XT-PIC ide0
    15: 25 XT-PIC ide1
    NMI: 0
    ERR: 0

    With the non working vdr:

    CPU0
    0: 31585170 XT-PIC timer
    1: 926 XT-PIC i8042
    2: 0 XT-PIC cascade
    8: 1 XT-PIC rtc
    9: 135 XT-PIC acpi, uhci_hcd, eth0
    14: 85358 XT-PIC ide0
    15: 25 XT-PIC ide1
    NMI: 0
    ERR: 0

As you can see interrupt 7 is not assigned to the saa7146 when vdr is not working.

Because of that I changed the PCI IRQ assignment in the BIOS. The first cold boot was successull, but that doesn't mean that the problem is solved. I'll have to test for a while.

As soon as I've results from my tests I'll let you know.

Thanks for your help. At least I've now something to play with.

    Cheers
    Roman
