Cannot open shared object file

Hi

I decide compile by my self VDR. Seem that the compile process goes well but when I try to lunch VDR with a plugins (I also tryed Vdr-hello plugins) I get thhis error:

libvdr-hello.so.1.3.44: cannot open shared object file

the plugins is under /video/plugins

Why I get that?

My system is debian Etch

PS: is the first program that I tried to compile by my self .

But I have to raise the white flag compiling Vdr and Xine is still hard for what I know. and the how-to in english are very poor and each one is different. After spent all week end I raise the white even if have my SS2work properely under linux was nice to see.
