[solved] [0.3] How to get automatic refreshrates for xbmc?

  • Is it possible to get automatic refreshrates to work ? I can force displaymode 1920x1080_24 from webfrontend with no problem. Xbmc plays flawless 24 hz material. Well problem is that normal tv broadcasts are useless with that mode.

For me it would be fine if 1920x1080@50p would be default and with 24 hz material it would use 1920x1080@24p.

Is it possible to get things working automatic ?

nvidia-auto-select won't do any changes when 24 hz material is played.

AFAIR the Nvidia drivers are using a "metamode" definition for this purpose in the xorg.conf:

  • I did try that metamode option, but no help for my situation. Just noticed that xbmc log does not recognice 24Hz or 60Hz modes at all.

  • Hi,

same Problem here for a long time until I recognized the following entry within the "VIDEO" section in the xbmc-settings.

SETTINGS->VIDEO->PLAYBACK->ADJUST DISPLAY REFRESH RATE TO MATCH VIDEO

has to be ENABLED. By default it is disabled.
After fixing this... the refresh-rate is changed properly in my case

    Perhaps this helps ;)

Look at this >>post <<, it is German I know, but have a look at the appended xorg.conf. User "HeinBloed7" did make the dynamic change of refresh rates within XMBC work for himself. He did define modelines for all modes and defined them in "modes". The "metamodes" definition should use modelines from the EDID data, could be, this doesn't work for you.

Don't forget to enable it in XMBC settings.

  • Hello,

Actually I was working on the same issue last week and finally got it working following some of the existing XBMC documentation on this topic: XBMCFreak.

Most of the three important steps have been discussed already:
    - Define with MODE settings all the required modes for 50,60 & 24Hz (yavdr is just putting on MODE in by default)
    - Set in XBMC the adjust display refresh rate
    - Set Option "DynamicTwinView" "False" in the Xorg.conf screen section

With this setting XBMC is switch to 24Hz for movies.
