[SOLVED rebooting the router] yaVDR 0.4 ssh service has become very slow after last update

  • Hi.

ssh service login has become to me very slow after las apt-get dist-upgrade. Has someone had the same problem?

It takes more than 60 seconds to validate user and password.

Some idea to solve the problem? It worked correctly before update.

    Thanks and regards.

    Hi.

It happens when I connect from outside home (from internet). When I arrive home I will check from inside network.

Your conection is from your internal network or from internet?

  • Hi.

I post more info in case someone can help to find out what is happening.

    I use this for connect:
    myUser@myComputer:~$ ssh -v -p myRemotePortsshConection -l myUser myInternetRemoteIP

And the report of connection is:

I have written this " **************** A lot of time" in the lines where the computer takes a lot of time to go to the next step.

    some idea?

    Thx

  • From my inside network, the connection is fine.

Now I have to check my internal network connection with the laptop I used from internet. I will tell you the results.

  • Try setting "UseDNS off" in your sshd config when login from external networks is slow again. Most time Reverse DNS just doesn't work well slowing the login down.

    Hi.

I tried that, but I am not sure if I have to change the config file in my client or in yaVDR0.4 server. The tries I made does not make any difference but It is possible I changed the line "UseDNS off" in the wrong place.

Could you tell me if I should made the change in the server or in the client? In my client the file /etc/ssh/sshd_config does not exists.

    Thx.

  • Hi again

I have modified the file /etc/ssh/sshd_config in yaVDR0.4 server with "UseDNS no" ("UseDNS off" gives a problem and ssh server does not even start), and I think that it could be working fine. I have to do more checkings but I am hopeful with the solution.

I will keep you posted, but my new checkings from internet will be on friday.

    Thx.

  • Today, I have tried an internet connection and it works a little bit better. The time of answer is better than before, but not very much (more than 60 seconds to connect).

But there is something that worries me. The terminal screen only is updated when I press two keys. When I press the first key, nothing happens, and when I press another key, the screen is updated showing the two keys pressed.

I made another try, when I connect from two terminals at once, the time of answer is good. I do not know what the he.. is happening?

This only happens when I connect from internet and this behaviour is not the usual. Someone is experiencing something similar?

  • Is there maybe outgoing/incoming traffic from your home network that eats up your upstream/downstream bandwidth caused by an application runing in your home network?

    Cheers,
    hepi

Nop, as far as I know. The speed in my home connection seems to be good.

  • Hi.

I am knocking my head over and over...

A reboot in my home router solved the issue. After hours of tries, hepi gave the final clue, even working fine the inner networking, a reboot in my router solved the slow ssh conection from internet.

    Thanks everybody and regards
