Does VDR need to output video? Why am I getting "Channel not available"?

  • I've compiled VDR 1.7.15 and I'm trying to run it but I'm getting an error:

Mar 31 13:58:15 dvr vdr: [1148] info: Channel not available!

    I'm also getting another error:

Mar 31 14:07:41 dvr vdr: [1911] device 1 has no MPEG decoder

I'm trying to run VDR on a headless server box so there is currently no video or audio output. I just want VDR to tune to a channel so I can use dvbsnoop and then record it (in the future).

    Thanks for any help

  • You should install a FF Card or any other DVB Card then try again.

noone here knows your system, how should we guess?

    HD: yaVDR 0.3, AT3IONT-I, CINE2S, NVRAM, X10, 2.5´ 320GHDD
    SD: ctvdr 7 vdr 1.6.0, MSI 6318 (Medion2000), 667MHz, NVRRAM, WOL 500G HD
    TV: Sharp LC52XL2E (100Hz), Beamer: Sanyo Z5

  • Mar 31 14:07:41 dvr vdr: [1911] device 1 has no MPEG decoder

Well, I would say this not an error, this is a statement of a fact, your device doesn't have any MPEG decoder, so what ...

But you need to have any output device like dummydevice, xine-plugin, xineliboutput-plugin or the best choice for a headless VDR server: streamdev-server.

And channels can only be found, if there are some defined in channels.conf.
