word-wrap in program info screen

  • I'm looking for a skin that shows the entire leadtext when viewing program information.

In the attached screenshot, the lead text in the program information is truncated instead of word-wrapped. The main program information text is correctly wrapped, but here in Australia, most program descriptions have only lead text.

Am unsure if this is possible to fix in a skin, as it seems all the skins I've tried (am running yavdr 0.6.1) seems to have this problem.

  • Hi,

it seems that you use a text2skin Skin. Afaik text2skin and all the according skins are not in development anymore.

Either you try another modern "native" Skin (like skin flatplus which should be included in the yavdr PPAs) or you use a skindesigner skin. But for that you have to use another PPA (best would be frodos PPA)...if you need information how to do that...use google ;)

    Cheers Louis

  • Ok, will try skindesigner skins.

It's so hard to find a nice skin, my favourite has been pearlHD, but it's a text2skin with its issues, so am looking for something similar, but all the skindesigner skins (at least those that can be automatically installed from within) doesn't look quite as good.

Hm, there is no accounting for taste ;) But skinning with skindesigner is easy, so feel free to create a pearlHD clone with skindesigner...

  • In your epg.data the 'leadtext' seems to be categorized als 'shorttext'. Most skins provide only a single line for shorttext, hence longer text is truncated there. Try LCARS, it should show you the entire (short)text line wrapped.

The yellow colored text in my screenshot with LCARS shows the following shorttext-entry in epg.data:

    Zitat

S Mord in Pastell this is a test for long shorttext this is a test for long shorttext this is a test for long shorttext this is a test for long shorttext this is a test for long shorttext this is a test for long shorttext this is a test for long shorttext this is a test for long shorttext this is a test for long shorttext this is a test for long shorttext this is a test for long shorttext this is a test for long shorttext this is a test for long shorttext this is a test for long shorttextthis is a test for long shorttext this is a test for long shorttext this is a test for long shorttext this is a test for long shorttext this is a test for long shorttext this is a test for long shorttext this is a test for long shorttext this is a test for long shorttext this is a test for long shorttext this is a test for long shorttext this is a test for long shorttext this is a test for long shorttext this is a test for long shorttext this is a test for long shorttext EOL

Perhaps you resp. vdr can fix your problem in PearlHD with a higher 'EPG bugfix level' (Menu-Settings-EPG). Comments in vdr's epg.c et seqq.. Be aware that a higher EPG bugfix level will have an effect only on new entries in epg.data!

If 'leadtext' is in the events 'description-section' (leading capital letter 'D') all skins will show the entire text line wrapped.

  • Yes, shorttext is what I mean, I didn't know the correct terminology.

Shouldn't this be considered a bug in the skins, if they truncate the text? I assume longer shorttext is allowed in the dvb standard?

LCARS shows it correctly, but my god that skin is painful on the eyes. Sorry to any trekkies out there..

Well, ... I think it is 'buggier' to have the description as shorttext and only a dot (shown at your screenshots) as descritption ;)

As I saw meanwhile the skindesignerskins estuary4vdr and simplex wrap long shorttexts too, give them a chance!

Otherwise test the attached patch for PearlHD. If it doesn't work satisfactorily, provide your complete epg.data.
